Overview
Hot Topics differs from Canada25’s other policy streams in three key ways:
  • Hot Topics is INTENSIVE. Canada25 will be focusing on Innovation, Cities and Canada and the World over the next 12 months. Each Hot Topic, however, will dominate our debate for a mere 6-8 weeks.

  • Hot Topics is REACTIVE. It allows Canada25 to respond to important public policy issues and debates as they occur, instead of trying to force them into one of the other three policy streams. Ideally, Hot Topics should act as a policy vacuum – sucking up issues as they occur.

  • Hot Topics is BOTTOM-UP. Hot Topics allows Canada25 city groups to discuss the same pivotal public policy issues at the same time – allowing the organization to tap into a national and international set of opinions. And for those who can’t participate through a city chapter, each Hot Topic will hopefully generate a virtual discussion conducted over email and through this website.

Every three months or so, Canada25 will choose a new Hot Topic from members’ suggestions – a timely and current policy issue with broad appeal and the ability to generate a dynamic debate. Readings and resources will be posted on-line – as well as a series of questions designed to spur discussion. For information on the current Hot Topic – and its timetable – check out our most recent Announcements.
