The Journey
From fall 2002 through spring 2004, over 350 young Canadians - in cities around the world - were invited to participate in discussing Canada's role in the world. The objective of the discussions was to create a vision for Canada in the global arena, and then to work backwards to create concrete recommendations that would lead us in the desired direction.
Following a series of initial introductory discussions in Toronto, Calgary, London (UK) and other cities across Canada, a survey was launched and distributed to Canada25's membeship base. The insights gleaned from this survey helped to establish direction for the Regional Roundtables that were held in 11 cities across Canada. These Roundtables brought together more than 300 young canadians of which 20 were selected to attend our national forum in Gatineau, Québec. Our national delegates represent some of Canada's most creative young minds. We would also like to thank the enormous contributions of forum facilitators Cynthia MacKenzie and Ross Wallace, and of the Lead Pen for the From Middle to Model Power report, David Eaves.
The National Forum was launched at Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade's Lester B. Pearson building, with opening remarks from Minister Bill Graham, CARE Canada President A. John Watson, McKinsey & Co. Canadian director Bruce Simpson, and Harvard professor Penny Collenette. Please see the official press release for more information (coming soon).
Each step of the Canada and the World process built upon the previous thinking and learning of Canada25 members, culminating in the development of dozens of creative policy recommendations. We would like to thank all of those who contributed to our work.
We hope that you enjoy the following visual glimpse into our National Forum and encourage you to participate in Canada25's current and future efforts!
