YOUNG CANADIAN LEADERS LOOK TO REVITALIZE CANADA’S ROLE IN THE WORLD
Moving Canada from middle to model power
Ottawa, ON, Thursday, March 11, 2004 -
Today Canada25 officially launches its Canada and the World National Forum with a panel discussion featuring distinguished guests and young Canadian leaders from across the country and around the world.
The Canada and the World National Forum, being held in Gatineau, QC, from March 11-14th, is the culmination of months of work designed to answer the question, “How can we recharge Canada’s role in the world by 2025?”. Looking to develop fresh ideas that move Canada from middle to model power on the world stage, delegates will be examining areas key to Canada’s foreign policy objectives, such as security, the environment, health and culture.
National delegates come from a diverse range of academic, professional and philosophical backgrounds. They represent many fields including academia, not-for-profit, business and government and were selected for their creativity, leadership and track record of initiative and accomplishment.
The Canada and the World National Forum follows a series of Regional Roundtables, which have been held in 11 cities worldwide, including Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Washington DC, and London, UK.
“More than 350 young Canadians participated in the Roundtables. Their ingenuity and insight are providing the platform for our national delegates to examine issues critical to Canada’s international success,” says Andrew Medd, Canada25’s Executive Director.
Canada25 is a non-profit, non-partisan organisation that brings the voices and ideas of young Canadians, aged 20-35, to the nation’s public policy discourse and takes action on issues of local and national significance.
Guest panelists for the March 11th event include The Honourable Bill Graham, Minister of Foreign Affairs, A. John Watson, CEO of Care Canada, and Bruce Simpson, Managing Director (Canada) of McKinsey & Company.
