Overview

As an organization committed to bringing the voices and ideas of Canadians aged 20-35 to our nation’s public policy discourse and taking action on issues of local and national significance, Canada25 has chosen to develop a national youth service fellowship program as its first major action initiative. Originally developed as a key recommendation of Canada25’s first major policy paper Building Up: Making Canada’s Cities Magnets for Talent and Engines of Development, the Canada Service Corps is a national fellowship program that harnesses the skills and energies of young Canadians, aged 20-35, to strengthen the capacity of non-profit organizations to serve communities in Canada.

To achieve its mission, the Canada Service Corps will:
  • Facilitate long-term fellowship placements designed to address the specific needs of non-profit organizations;
  • Enable young Canadians to contribute meaningfully to their communities through the non-profit organizations that serve them;
  • Foster an understanding among non-profit organizations of how to engage and leverage the talents of young people; and
  • Promote the value of community involvement and the importance of the non-profit sector to young Canadians
Since early July 2003, a team of dedicated volunteers from across Canada have worked to develop this program and generate support for its implementation. We are currently in the final stages of program planning and fundraising in order to launch the program pilot in early 2005. To learn more about the origins and development of the Canada Service Corps please see the history of the Canada Service Corps program.
